Innovation means different things to different people but one meaning that is widely accepted is beautifully captured in the following quote by Theodore Levitt.
"Creativity is thinking up new things … Innovation is doing new things”

The Innovation Cycle
In 2011 UNSW moved towards a new model for dealing with intellectual property and commercialisation of technology. In this bold move we are firmly addressing the Universities mission to create and disseminate new knowledge. In 2012 the UNSW Inventor of the Year Awards is aligning itself with UNSW’s new focus. A new name comes with that alignment – the UNSW Innovation Awards.

These awards are an important and very welcome way to recognize both the researchers and the NSi business development managers we have worked with. They are also a very impressive way to showcase some of the impact, which UNSW research is having on the community and industry. With so many outstanding and commercially relevant research activities, choosing winners in this inaugural year must have been a near impossible task and I feel most fortunate to have been selected.
